It always sounds scarier than it is. The fact is, when you travel alone, you're don't have to spend everyday alone. I spent the last two months traveling solo, and whenever I wanted company it was there. There are people in the Hostel, people you meet in cafes, or just people you keep running into at the same sites. Then when I want to be alone, I can. And as for everything else, you'll figure it out. Can't decipher the metro? Ask someone. You'll figure it all out so quickly, you'll wonder what the big deal is. Good luck. :) I would say go for it.
